From the glamorous occupation of jockey to the behind-the scenes efforts of stable hands, the equine industry is made up of many important sectors. Each position in the industry is vital to its overall success. There are a large number of related jobs without which there could be no racing, however horses are at the centre of the industry and work within practically every sector requires a sound knowledge of them.

While people usually begin a career in the equine industry as a stable hand, you can progress into almost any area, given the skills, training and drive!

About Equine Industry Training

Equine Industry Training, is part of AgITO, one of New Zealand’s largest industry training organisations (ITOs).

Previously known at the New Zealand Equine Industry Training Organisation, we joined AgITO in 2012. We offer nationally recognised, New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) registered qualifications for the breeding, harness racing, thoroughbred racing, stable management, racecourse maintenance and greyhound racing sectors.

Our qualifications and unit standards have been developed in consultation with industry. Our training is available to those employed in the industry.
